For 2011, Colonial is honored to have chosen Shift Manager Mustafa Abdi as Employee of the Year.

“Mr. Abdi goes way beyond the need for finding parking solutions,” wrote one customer in praise of our employee of the year. “There were many times I could not find parking and he has been very helpful and accommodating, and not only to me; he accommodates visitors, contractors, employees, seniors and pregnant employees without hesitation to find parking solutions. During snow, rain and events which make parking unbearable, Mr. Abdi will comply without hesitation to accommodate all who need it.”

Mustafa has a humble demeanor but takes pride in leading by example, proving each day that he is an exceptional Shift Manager. Many other customers have also taken note of his service, sending him letters of gratitude and appreciation.

“Mustafa is a natural at providing service,” explained General Manager at the National Institute of Health, Brian Watts. “Most people see a situation where they can be helpful and then it takes a minute for them to react; Mustafa is already in place helping.”

Whether it’s meeting a customer with an umbrella in the rain, lending a hand to someone carrying a heavy burden, or recognizing customers and squeezing them into a jammed lot so they’re not late for a meeting, Mustafa is always the first to step in.

“His interaction with his peers and our customers is exceptional,” said Watts.

Mustafa was hired in 2000 and worked as an attendant until he was promoted in December 2009 to his current position as Shift Manager at the National Institute of Health.

It gives Colonial great pride to showcase Project Manager Paulos Tadesse, who has evolved and proven himself in just over a year with Colonial Parking, as Manager of the Year.

“He established a great and respectable relationship with the clients, and demonstrated his leadership quality with measurable results,” said Senior Operations Manager Dagnachew Thomas. “Clients at all his locations have communicated their respect and appreciation for his quick responsiveness and problem-solving skills – they’ve shown a great deal of confidence in him.”

Ever since his employment with Colonial, Tadesse has managed to upgrade our Customer Care Center and Project Manager’s office with little or no cost, allowing Colonial to advance the center’s hours of operation to be open 24/7. His dedication has led to an increase in customer service and boosted financial performance and accountability to outstanding levels.

Tadesse was first hired in June 2010 as a Temporary Attendant at Nationals’ Stadium, and in less than two months was promoted to full-time valet and attendant at another Colonial parking facility. Just a week later he was given the position of Shift Manager at Fairlakes – considered a difficult and distant parking facility – and performed his duties exceptionally well. Due to temporary construction taking place during his employment, every single car at Fairlakes had to be valeted in a garage strapped for space. Tadesse resourcefully moved the cars in and out for customers in the morning, at lunchtime and again in the evening with tremendous skill, endurance and patience.

In December his efforts were rewarded, and Tadesse was promoted yet again to Assistant Project Manager at another challenging facility. Finally, in July of 2011, he was promoted to his current position as Project Manager at three separate locations at the U.S. Patent Trademark Office, 425 3rd Street SW and the Carlyle Overlook.

Paulos has a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. Prior to joining Colonial, he managed and led an International Advertising Company, responsible for coordinating and producing variety of graphic creations and services, bringing new life to brands, companies, products and everything in between. After 14 years of dedicated service, Mr. Tadesse decided to move From Ethiopia to America with his wife and three children.”

Colonial Parking is thrilled to have Jack Hall, a person of demonstrable character and accomplishment, as a new Senior Operations Manager at six parking facilities in Alexandria, VA. Jack, who was born in Long Island, NY and received his bachelor’s degree in economics in 2004 at the College of the Holy Cross, served in the Marine Corps for seven years as a communications officer managing complex information systems.

For many military veterans who recently returned home after valiantly serving our country, the challenges are not yet over. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, veterans who completed their service from 2001 forward are dealing with an 11.5 percent unemployment rate – higher than the current 9.1 percent national average.

Jack was stationed at Quantico and Camp Pendleton in addition to serving in Iraq from 2006-2007. Jack’s unique professional experiences have established him as an individual in possession of a wide array of skills Colonial Parking appreciates: customer/client interaction, technology integration and being a provider of exceptional service. Based on the integrity and diligence veterans have proved in their service to our country, Colonial Parking is proud to have recently acquired Jack Hall as a member of its team.

Chosen from a large field of eligible honorees, Hassan distinguished himself based upon his tireless dedication to customer service, his ability to promote a service orientation among those with whom he works and his success in delivering results in complex situations. Said Senior Vice President Bereket Woldu: “He is the best and delivers the best!”

Hassan began his career at Colonial in 1990 as an attendant. His leadership abilities were quickly realized and he began to hone his skills as a staff manager. For the first part of 2010, Hassan was a shift manager at Location 199 – Democracy Center – where he managed a large and complex operation that included both lots and a large garage offering self and valet parking. His large staff at the garage was routinely praised for their passion for excellent service. Hassan finished the year at #563 – Chase Tower at 4445 Willard Avenue – which services the headquarters of the Ritz Carlton. Working in a complex garage with a heavy stacking requirement, Hassan continuously motivates his staff to provide extraordinary services.

In his 20 year career at Colonial, Hassan has previously been recognized as Employee of the Quarter and his staff at Democracy Center were honored as Team of the Quarter.

Amir’s ability to gain the trust of the project’s owners and stakeholders is just one of the reasons for his success.
