CAREERS
Training At the heart of Colonial’s
approach to employee training is a management strategy that encourages
employee retention, values the contribution of each employee, provides
individual employees with the means and the methods to “own
their careers” and actively promotes empowerment at every
level.
Colonial invests significant resources into a comprehensive system
of initial, remedial and advancement training initiatives. The Colonial
University Employee Learning Program forms the framework of this
effort. From the training facility at the Corporate Headquarters,
Colonial University, under the guidance of Director of Professional
Development Mark Burnett, offers ongoing classes in four core curriculum
areas:
- New Hire Orientation: Offering classes (the majority of which are
required for all new employees) ranging from an introduction to
Colonial and its employee benefits and program to basic skills for
money handling employees. These courses are taught by Tim Slevin,
Colonial’s full-time trainer.
- Technical Skills: Encompasses classes in specific topics
of interest and importance to the parking industry ranging from
auditing, risk management and claims administration to equipment
maintenance and socialized customer service skills.
- Management Skills: Offers courses in customer
service training, management, leadership and supervision for managers
and perspective managers at every level of the company.
- Special Issues: Pulls together classes on subject matters
of narrower importance to specific management career paths including
special event parking, valet parking operations and specialized revenue
maximization techniques.
Courses in the last three curriculum areas are taught by a combination
of in-house experts and outside consultants.
