How Do I Fix a Static Cling that is Curling, Hardening, or Constantly Falling Off?

Please try the following methods to restore its flexibility and static charge.

1. Reset the Cling with Warm Water
Place the cling in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water for 1 to 2 minutes. This softens the vinyl, flattens out any curled edges, and washes away dust.
2. Clean Both Surfaces with Soap
Glass cleaners can leave a chemical residue that destroys the static bond. Wash the cling gently with a drop of dish soap and warm water, then rinse completely. Clean the windshield spot with dish soap and water as well, rather than window spray. Let the cling air dry or blot it with a lint-free cloth (avoid paper towels, which leave fuzzy residue).
3. Reapply to a Cool Windshield
Direct sunlight and extreme heat prevent the cling from bonding properly during application.

  • Park in the shade or a garage so the windshield glass is cool to the touch.

Lightly mist the glass with water before pressing the cling down. Use a credit card to squeegee all air and moisture out to the edges.

4. The Tape Trick (For Stubborn Clings)
Place clear double-sided tape on the front corners of the cling.
a. Press it directly on to the glass.
Alternative Display Option
Rearview Mirror Hanger: Obtain a clear hangtag pocket from the parking attendant’s booth. Slide your cling inside of it and hang it from your rearview mirror when parked.
