Bio:

Alem joined Colonial Parking as an Operations Manager on December 1, 2017. She came to Colonial with over twenty years of experience in customer service and operations management, with vast knowledge in the parking sector. Previously, she had been at George Washington University, working in their parking department, and joined the Colonial team when they took over management at GWU. At first, she stayed with the GWU locations, but eventually transferred to managing six of our Southwest and Downtown locations.

Tell me a little bit about yourself?

In my free time, I love to travel because it takes me outside of my culture and privilege and reminds me of great differences in our world. Travel inspires me to learn more, think more and to better serve our world community.

What are some of your regular duties as an Operations Manager?

My regular duties include managing and responding to customers’ inquires and auditing, coordinating, and maintaining my locations in an efficient and courteous manner, in accordance with all Colonial Parking guidelines and standards. This includes supervising, training, and supporting my teams, as well as ensuring we are limiting liability, efficiently processing claims, and maintaining overall safety.

Why do you like working at Colonial Parking?

I like working for Colonial Parking because it provides a great environment for learning and growth that works to further improve my knowledge base and skills. Moreover, Colonial Parking values employees and I am proud to be part of a team that appreciates employees who are working hard every day. Prior to joining the family, I had seen Colonial consistently listed as one of the top parking establishments and heard of their enthusiasm for encouraging employee growth through education, training, and vast resources, which promotes growth within the company by learning new skills.

What do you think makes you good at your job?

I have worked hard in previous jobs to develop specific and necessary skills that are very transferable to my current position. I am a highly organized, trustworthy, and dependable person. I also think I am extremely personable, which makes me feel confident handling customer and client interactions, phone calls, and email correspondence. I am also very adaptable – if there is a sudden need for a change of plans, I quickly and confidently handle all that is needed.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love my job because I love the personal interactions with customers and colleagues. Furthermore, I love my job because everyone shares the same vision and is dedicated to the mission. This truly creates a family environment where everybody is there for each other. There is a genuine spirit of cooperation and shared goals, all revolving around helping the customer.

What are your goals at Colonial?

My goal is to continue being a valued contributor to the Colonial team and working hard in achieving Colonial’s mission and vision.  I would like to keep on learning the most up-to-date knowledge on the latest technologies in a way that will move me forward in successfully managing my locations and performing my job. I believe continued learning is critical to my ability to expand my knowledge and responsibilities.
