It has been a little over a year since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in the United States and we all know what a strange and difficult year it has been. Despite the obvious hardships this pandemic has caused, Colonial Parking is adapting, thriving, and planning for the future.

Responding to COVID-19

Like most businesses, when the seriousness of COVID-19 was apparent, Colonial immediately implemented new safety and sanitation procedures, including mandatory masks and gloves, social distancing markers and regular, mandatory sanitation of machines and equipment. But we didn’t stop there. With over 280 unique facilities, we understood that protocols needed to be more specific per location type, so we created and implemented a step-by-step manual and training system for our employees to ensure that we exceeded general standards for both customers’ and employees’ safety.

We also looked at ways we could adjust our business practices. We reduced the amount of valet service performed inside garages by expanding the number of available Self-Park and Lock spaces and implemented new touchless procedures for payment with Google Pay, Apple Pay and Tap to Pay. Members of our Facility Care team received certifications in infectious disease sanitation and rapid fogging services, in order for us to be able to quickly react if COVID-19 is reported in one of our facilities.

Looking Ahead

At Colonial Parking we aim to always to be proactive in approaching the future and predicting the needs of our customers and clients. We understand that once things do go back to “normal”, there will still be a demand for contactless solutions. Therefore, we’re exploring more into contactless PARCS equipment that allows you to “pull” a ticket by waving your hand, instead of touching buttons. We’re also working on new ways to upgrade current programs for seamless, more contactless entry and exit and are excited to present those once they’re fully developed.

Operating during a pandemic has certainly been difficult and a learning curve for us, but we believe we will come out of this stronger than ever.
